Revision of Found Poem PLUS Revision Reflection

Revise your found poem for “What Happened During the Ice Storm.” Consider the evolution of the poem “Lottery” and how the revision process removed, changed, and added material that contributed to the final product. The original draft must be attached to the submitted version. Your revision should consider possible changes to:

  • Point of view (from what perspective do we see the poem)

  • Verb usage/tense (can verbs be changed or should their tense - past/present/future) be changed)

  • Word choice (how can words be added/removed/reorganized to create poetic effects - alliteration, rhyme, etc)

  • Structure (how can words/lines/stanzas be organized and broken up?)

  • Title

Your revision reflection should consider not only why you made these changes, but also explain the motivation behind what has been added, removed, changed, or kept as it is.

Goals are to produce a thoughtfully improved poem that considers the importance of organization and word selection, and to express the influence of those considerations on the revision process.

Exemplary Work will produce a compelling poetic work that is coherent, with a revision reflection that provides a grammatically accurate, in-depth exploration of the process of creating the improved version.
