As we approach our essay for Mockingbird, we need to begin selecting scenes that are instrumental in the coming of age of our characters. The prompt itself expects the following:

“[W]rite a passage analysis of a key coming-of-age scene from To Kill a Mockingbird. After annotating the text to analyze Harper Lee’s use of literary elements in your selected passage, write an essay explaining how the literary elements in this passage help develop a theme of the novel.”

Prepared to Perform!

We will be scheduling our acting schedule (one performance per day beginning Wednesday, March 6th), so your group must be prepared to perform. This means all props, costumes, lines, sound effects, background images, and other details are ready.



Goals are to demonstrate a command of the text of Romeo and Juliet and the interpretation of that text by collaborating, planning, and practicing to achieve the desired interpretation of the group and director.

Exemplary Work will show creativity and cooperation in the interpretation with control over the language of the text.

Write a paragraph explaining how Romeo and Juliet is a coming-of-age drama. Explain what it has in common with other coming-of-age texts that you have studied this year (you might consider “The Stolen Party,” “What Happened During the Ice Storm,” “The Fight,” “Tamera’s Opus” or others). Include issues that Romeo and Juliet face that teenagers today still have to deal with. Be sure to:
