3 Quotes Identifying "Voice" in your Independent Reading book

This assignment is similar to the Check Your Understanding on page of 11 of Springboard, which states the following:

Anderson was 38 when Speak was published, yet she captures a teen girl's voice through her diction, syntax, and imagery. To explore how, choose three quotes you think sound particularly authentic, and write a response in a double-entry journal that explains how the quotes contribute to the narrator's teen voice. What inferences can you draw about the character of Melinda based on these quotes?

The assignment I'm asking you to do is similar. Consider a character from your IR book and think about how the author presents them. Is your character young or old, male or female, adventurous or timid? However you feel the character is characterized, I want you to select and quote three sections from the book that best capture the character's voice. Then, explain how these quotes contribute to the character's voice.

For example, in the novel Unwind, the character Risa is a young girl of thirteen who is put into a terrifying situation. She is powerless and scared. In this section she uses short sentences, which show her panic. She often repeats the words of people talking to her, which shows how angry she is with them and how little she believes them. Finally, she focuses on small details of the people around her, such as how they are dressed or the business-like things they do, which shows that she feels powerless next to them. For this homework assignment, if I explained these details and quoted from the text, I would receive a high grade on the assignment.
