To what extent of is Hurston’s story (“Sweat”) both a tribute to the lives of ordinary African American people and a story that does not represent the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance. Choose a method of prewriting and then draft your analysis and response to this story. Be sure to:

“Sweat” is a complicated text because of its use of dialect. The key to getting familiar with this language is hearing it; that means you need to be reading it out loud.
