Your assignment is to write a literary analysis in which you analyze how Zadie Smith uses literary devices or elements to express the theme of coping with emotional turmoil in the short story "Martha, Martha."

1. Review the Rubric again and make changes to ensure you are meeting it.
2. Be sure *Every* part of the essay connects to coping or emotional turmoil. You should have — at minimum — four paragraphs (1 intro + 2 body + 1 conclusion). Each needs to explore these theme topics.
3. Do you explain how lit devices and elements show theme topic?

What you CAN DO (for extra credit):
1. AFTER you have finished your draft (but before you turn it in), visit the attached link to the Arbitrary List of Things Anathema to Good Essays. Read the introduction at the top. Then, find at least FIVE things from the Arbitrary List that you did on your rough draft that can be fixed on your final draft. Include these five items at the end of the essay and explain the changes you will need to make to correct them.
