Analysis of "Marigolds": 2 Device/Theme

This is an essay that will be worked on, in part, with the collaboration of your group in class. The work you turn in should reflect the work done in class. (It should not be entirely different from your group’s work)

Your assignment is based on Activity 4 from our Writing Workshop packet. You will write a response-to-literature essay in which you examine how the author of the selected story uses at least two literary devices and/or stylistic techniques to convey meaning or theme. Be sure your essay meets the requirements listed on the workshop’s first page.

You should also review the Scoring Guide on the last page of the Writing Workshop packet

Goals are to produce a clear and coherent analysis that demonstrates an understanding of how literary devices and stylistic techniques contribute to a theme and an ability to organize ideas into paragraphs, including topic sentences for each paragraph that relates to the thesis, and support each topic sentence with evidence and commentary.

Exemplary Work will be grammatically accurate and effectively direct the reader’s attention toward a thesis that logically follows from the introduction that precedes it.
