Close read annotations will be due on Wednesday, April 5th. For this assignment you will closely read a passage from to Kill a Mockingbird. In your reading, you will examine details of the passage that reveal the significance of Boo Radley as a motif and subplot. To understand Boo as a motif, annotate details that reveal his role as recurring image, symbol, theme, character type, subject, or narrative detail that creates connections between elements of the work. To understand Boo as a subplot, annotate details that develop a secondary plot (with its own inciting incidents, conflicts, rising action, and climax) that supports the development of the main plot in some way. Be sure to:
- Annotate - that means mark anything of significance and comment on everything you mark
- Consider the significance of interactions involving Boo (or his property) as well as behaviors of the children that do not seem to be directly related to Boo: how the children behave away from him could reveal clues about how they behave around him.
- Make connections! Mark places where details are building on things which have come before.
- ANNOTATE EVERYWHERE. These pages should come back bleeding ink.
