Finish Their Eyes Were Watching God and Double Entry

As you read Their Eyes Were Watching God, you will be keeping a double-entry journal  to note the connections between the our understanding of the Harlem Renaissance and the events and ideas of the novel. In your notes you will be expected to identify chapters and page numbers, provide textual evidence, and include thoughtful commentary that explains how Hurston’s work is characteristic of the Harlem Renaissance as well a departure from its philosophy/beliefs, historical context, connection to the arts, and daily life.

It is expected that you complete this double-entry journal as you read, and each chapter should include three entries in the journal. The commentary for each entry should identify which element of the Harlem Renaissance the textual evidence supports or conflicts with and why. This will require more than 1 sentence per entry for commentary, with 3-4 being more likely.
