Your assignment is to provide a publication draft of Embedded Assessment 1, which is:
...to write a multi-paragraph essay that defines your interpretation of what it means to be an American. This essay should use the strategies of definition and different perspectives from the unit to help you develop a complex and thoughtful definition. If possible, incorporate an iconic image into your essay.
You should carefully consider the texts we have read, the perspectives we have discussed, and the expectations of the rubric (page 52 of Springboard).
As a publication draft, your essay should include:
A TYPED copy
An introductory paragraph that establishes a clear thesis
Body paragraphs that identify each of the texts, speakers, and images you intend to include in your final draft
Multiple definition strategies that make up your extended definition
A conclusion that provides closure to your definition and wraps up your big ideas.
Grammar, spelling, and organization that represents your finest work
MLA formatted pages, citations, and works cited.

Note: I have noticed that many students have not included an iconic image in their definition. It is strong encouraged that you do so. You may consider one of the images from the class gallery, or research your own.
