FINAL Feedback Submission

Purpose: Giving and receiving feedback is an important part of the process of producing publication-worthy writing, and so it will be an important aspect of our class. Students will be responsible for providing written works-in-progress to their group mates and for responding with regular feedback when work is presented to reflect the importance of this role.

Process: Every week, ONE STUDENT in your group will be responsible for submitting writing to the group so that feedback can be given.

  1. By Tuesday, each other member of the group must submit ONE piece of feedback in response to the submission. Feedback must discuss all of the material submitted for workshop; if a student writes three short works, then each must receive feedback. Feedback must be no shorter than 250 words *total* (Include in header). It is encouraged that students also mark the submission itself with a focus on the ideas and content. Marking for grammar, punctuation, or spelling is not necessary.

Suggestions for feedback:

  1. Identifying the overall idea trying to express

  2. How successful the overall idea is expressed

  3. How characters (if present) feel authentic

  4. Successful details of imagery or word choice

  5. Notes about the presence of repetition in structure, word choice, or punctuation.

  6. Suggestions on where further development can be added

  7. Possible replacements for images/words.

  8. Questions that feel unanswered or unexplored

  9. Details that feel missing

  10. The most effective overall elements of the work.

  11. How literary devices might benefit the text

Submitting Workshop Content will be done using physical copies Students must bring printed copies of their workshop submissions — enough for each member of the group, PLUS one more for Lydon. Feedback can be done by hand or typed, but must include a word count. Feedback will be turned in to Lydon initially, then passed back to submission authors.
