Prompt: There have been hundreds of different performances of Hamlet, and dozens have been filmed. Each has intention, a driving motivation. Your task is to make an argument that one of the two we have seen should be considered the definitive version. Your response should explore how the interpretation of the scene most accurately conveys the character’s of the play. Consider Hamlet’s behavior toward Ophelia, the staging of the play within the play, Claudius’s and Gertrude’s reactions, the movement of the scene, and other details. You will need to clearly support your reading of these characters and their motivations using evidence from elsewhere in the play.
I actually encourage you to make an argument for the one that you are less inclined to think of as the "definitive" version. Making an argument for the one you don't prefer will likely lead you to making more cogent, complete arguments, as you will need to convince yourself just as well as the reader. This might save you from making logical leaps that you assume to be true (which is a common problem when writing on topics you take as accepted).
While I tried to rip a copy of the mousetrap scene from the DVD, repeated problems there leaves me giving you some pretty unfortunate quality Youtube videos for the Kenneth Branagh (1996) production.
