UPDATE: I've recovered books from students and from those misplaced. We are down to 21 missing. I've updated the lists below

I'll get straight to it. Nearly 50 books.

More than twice the cast of the show LOST. Seven times the number of cast members on the show Lost in Space. Almost three times as many characters in Milton's Paradise Lost, although God and the devil both have multiple incarnations there, so maybe that one doesn't count.

I'm trying to keep as positive as I can be about this because the library has been a success. I haven't yet a final total for the number of borrows this year, but I can say with certainty that my books were well-used. Plus the donations we have received has still increased the raw number of books available.

Still, some of the books that are gone were well regarded by my students and would have been recommended to my students next year. It is a shame to have lost them.

All is not, well... lost, however. I'm still trying to track down where these books may have ended up. Most of these are students who wanted to start the first few pages and forgot to properly check them out before taking them home. It is hard to track these down, but I'm optimistic our lost count will decrease. At the very least, I hope these books found homes with people that will enjoy them and - hopefully - either return them or pass them on.
